Choose a Goal: This is important to think about prior to creating your ad. What is your goal for your ad? To sell products? To get email subscribers? To increase your brand awareness? To get people to read your blog post? Whatever your goal is, be sure to define it before creating your ad, so you can optimize each aspect for your goal.

Have a Strategy: As previously mentioned, it’s important to plan your ad in advanced. What is your goal? What image(s) or video will you use? What copy will you write? What call-to-action will you use? Knowing all of this prior to creating your ad will keep you from becoming overwhelmed.

Use Eye-Catching Visuals: It’s no secret that the internet is a visual place, and Instagram is no exception to that rule. You need to catch your viewer’s attention when they are scrolling through the millions of images posted to Instagram each day, and using beautiful imagery is the perfect way to do it. We recommend hiring a professional to photograph your products, or purchase stock photography. If you’d like help with styling your Instagram photos, check out this post.

Provide a Benefit: The one question that will subconsciously go through a person’s mind before clicking a link is “what’s in it for me?” How will clicking on that link benefit the viewer? Make sure you are providing them with something, whether that is a coupon code, a helpful article, an awesome product, a limited time sale, or educational information. No matter that is it, you need to entice the viewers by highlighting the benefit to them in a way that is easy to understand.

Mobile Responsive Page: No matter what page you are sending viewers to, it MUST be responsive on mobile devices. What does this mean? That the page is fully responsive and easy-to-navigate on a mobile device. If a potential customer sees your ad and wants to buy your product, but clicks on the link and can’t navigate your shop very well on his or her phone, they are more likely to exit your site than come back on a computer to purchase the product.
